What is SafeSharps?

SafeSharps is a scalable sharps disposal program for commercial and public spaces, backed by Logistics Recycling Inc. (LRI). It pairs a tamper-resistant, wall-mounted collection container with a USPS/DOT-certified mail-back kit, giving businesses a simple, compliant way to dispose of needles, syringes, EpiPens, lancets, and razors.

Who is SafeSharps for?

Any business with restrooms, break rooms, or public-facing space where sharps might show up — retail and big box stores, convenience stores and gas stations, hospitality and entertainment venues, corporate offices, and food service locations. If your organization has employees or customers who self-administer injectable medication, SafeSharps is likely relevant.

What's included in the program?

Every SafeSharps plan includes a lockable, tamper-resistant wall-mounted collection box, a compliant sharps container insert, a USPS/DOT-certified mail-back kit with prepaid shipping, compliant treatment and disposal, and compliance documentation for your records.

How It Works

How does the mail-back program work?

Once your sharps container insert is full, you seal it, place it in the prepaid outer shipping box included with your kit, and drop it in the mail through USPS — no special waste pickup required. A replacement container ships to you automatically.

How do I install the container?

The wall-mounted collection box is designed for straightforward installation in restrooms, break rooms, or other convenient locations. We help you determine placement and installation as part of onboarding.

What happens when my container is full?

Fill the sharps container insert to the marked fill line, then lift it to confirm it locks and seals — this assures proper disposal and prevents spillback. Remove the sealed insert, place it in the outer shipping box, and mail it back using the prepaid label.

How often do I receive a replacement container?

Replacement schedules depend on your plan — annual or 6-month refill cycles are both available, sized to your container type and expected volume. See our pricing page for details.

Do you provide instructions for using the mail-back kit?

Yes — every kit includes step-by-step instructions, and a full walkthrough is available on our How It Works page.

Pricing & Plans

How much does SafeSharps cost?

Plans start at $6.25 per bathroom per month for the 1-quart annual program, with 3-year program totals starting at $450 (based on a 2-restroom facility). Pricing scales with container size (1-quart or 5-quart) and refill frequency (annual or 6-month). Price per restroom stays the same as you scale — you only pay for the coverage you need.

What's the difference between the 1-quart and 5-quart containers?

The 1-quart container is right-sized for lower-traffic locations like smaller restrooms and break rooms. The 5-quart container is built for higher-traffic facilities — stadiums, transit hubs, and multi-restroom locations that need more capacity between service cycles.

Is shipping included in the price?

Yes, shipping is included in your program pricing. Estimates are calculated based on distance from the treatment facility; see our pricing page for full details.

Can I get a custom quote for multiple locations?

Yes. Contact us with your business type, number of locations, and estimated volume, and we'll put together a straightforward, no-obligation quote.

Compliance & Safety

Is SafeSharps OSHA compliant?

SafeSharps is designed to support your organization's compliance with OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which apply to any workplace where employees could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials — including those who might encounter discarded sharps in waste. This is general safety information, not legal advice; consult your legal and EHS advisors for guidance specific to your organization.

Do you provide documentation for audits?

Yes. Every SafeSharps program includes compliance documentation of treatment and disposal, supporting your OSHA exposure control plan and ESG reporting requirements.

Is the mail-back kit really certified for shipping sharps?

Yes — every kit is a USPS/DOT-certified mail-back solution built specifically for compliant sharps shipping, treatment, and disposal.

What happens if there's a needlestick injury at my facility?

Federal law requires employers to provide full medical coverage for the affected employee at no cost, including initial wound care and testing, post-exposure prophylaxis if needed within 72 hours, a Hepatitis B vaccination check, and follow-up testing and counseling. See our Compliance page for the full breakdown.

What Can (and Can't) Go In the Container

What items can I dispose of in a SafeSharps container?

Sharps, syringes, needles, EpiPens, razors, and lancets are all accepted in SafeSharps containers.

What should NOT go in the container?

Do not place hazardous, radioactive, or contaminated non-sharps waste, or free liquids, in the container system. Never force a sharp into an already-full container, and do not exceed the total weight printed on the outside of the shipping box.

How should I insert a sharp into the container?

Always insert sharps needle-end first, pointed away from you, to prevent injury.
